Episode 23

How to Properly Write Fiction Scenes

If you think about it, a novel has several basic components: book, chapters, scenes, pages, paragraphs, sentences, and words. One could argue that the most crucial of these components are the scenes. When properly written and properly strung together, the scenes are what turns a story idea into a full-on novel. But most people take this for granted and don’t consider that there’s actually a right way and a wrong way to write and structure fiction scenes. This week, I brought on author CS Lakin to discuss exactly how we should write a proper scene in a novel.

In this episode, you will:

  • Learn exactly what constitutes a scene
  • Learn the crucial elements of a proper scene
  • Learn what makes a great, compelling scene
  • Lean how to handle different POVs and scenes
