In order to create characters who are well-rounded, empathetic, and relatable, you must first learn how to write emotions. Emotions, when written properly, will connect the reader to the protagonist and make them root for their victory. If you can give the reader a visceral experience where they can actually feel what the protagonist is going through, that character will stay with the reader long after they close the book.
